Job Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for the conceptualization and industrialization of Femto Cell Solutions within our network. The responsibility is for end-to-end service and proposition design, and will work with current expertise in broadband, radio and services within the organization to develop a technology solution for delivering indoor coverage solutions for voice and data applications.

Working closely with other parts of the technology team, the role will manage a group of two engineers to develop the interfaces and technologies which are required to realize an indoor wireless vision. They will work to specify propositions with relevant teams, and to drive these to trial requirements and specifications which can be implemented in test environments to ensure that required solutions can be industrialized to satisfy Comcast Deployment requirements.

• Network Specification – Create end-to-end requirements of a residential based, femto cell solution to include (but not limited to) radio network performance, core network interfaces, O&M system, cognitive radio management system, billing and care interfaces, provisioning interfaces
• Proposition Specification - Manage the preparation of wireless centric propositions which will leverage on the strength of the Comcast portfolio and brand, and will integrate with a technology solution to drive clear differentiators in the market place.
• Vendor Management - Create RFxs to be shared with vendors to realize proof of concept, friendly user and soft launch trials of relevant technologies to support Femto Cell Solutions. Qualify and present trial solutions and proposals to senior executives to ensure support from the organization and alignment to strategic intent
• Transmission Analysis – Direct analysis of quality of service implications for the interaction of the radio/core wireless technologies with cable broadband to provide an acceptable service experience which provides a differentiator. Interaction and consultation with existing Comcast experts to align the QoS parameters currently available on the high-speed cable network with the requirements for delivery of wireless voice and data.
• Customer Implementation Analysis – Ensure that the options for solutions specified details the management characteristics of the solutions from a user standpoint. Ensure that all implementations allow for graceful integration of systems and services without the need for Comcast Care intervention.

  Radio Analysis – ensure that radio analysis is performed for all relevant technologies. Ensure that the analysis takes into account both the viability of radio technologies to deliver propositions which align with the Comcast strategic intent, and also the analysis of the scalability and implementation characteristics of technologies to satisfy mass-market deployment

• Financial Analysis – ensure that a business case analysis is performed for Femto Cells and associated solutions. Matrix-manage financial resources to drive an understanding of the network, solution and proposition costs of a Femto Cell based architecture and reflect this case into an additive solution for Comcast to realize in-building wireless solutions

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree level in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Sciences or Mathematics
• At least 15 years wireless experience
• Cross functional technology experience (operations, engineering, strategy)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to clearly articulate complex technologies and relationships in an understandable fashion
• Experience of end-to-end wireless systems valuable (O&M, Core, Radio, Transmission)
• Commercial experience valuable
• Experience of circuit and packet switched wireless technologies
• Broad knowledge of wireless and wireline QoS mechanisms
• Deep understanding of wireless and fixed services and the ability to deliver these over a converged network.
• Deep understanding of the requirements and goals of indoor wireless technologies
• Good competitive understanding
• Good industry awareness of vendors and solutions
